Support

This is it.  Day number 7 of 7 for blogging prior to Oracle OpenWorld 2014.  This post will not be about automation or even contain a lick of code.  I welcome comments on this topic because of how important I feel it is.

I’m going to start with my personal portion first.  Sorry ladies, but I have the best husband out there.  It’s true.  The saying is “behind every strong man is a strong woman.”  Well, I feel the same about my husband – I am stronger because he is strong.  He supports me in my career and life.  He has a degree in aerospace engineering, but he is not technical.  Chemistry, physics, math – yes.  Computers – no.  But that doesn’t matter.  What matters is that he supports me and makes me stronger in my work and is selfless in his support.

While on the topic of support, this is my blog topic today.  If you are not a member of a user group, you are missing out on some big support in your career.  I am pretty involved in ODTUG but am also a member of RMOUG and IOUG.  I choose to be involved because of the quality and types of support I receive from them – and I want to give back.  Just a few of the support that I (and you!) can get from a user group:

  • Technical Journal articles
  • Access to other experts in the field
  • Opportunity to attend conferences
  • Access to forums about events and technical topics
  • Access to people in the same field as you

Because of user groups, I am at Oracle OpenWorld 2014.  I am an Oracle Ace Associate.  I have been published twice in technical journals.  I know – for a fact – that this would not have happened without my involvement in ODTUG.

I urge you – get involved in an user group.  You will not be disappointed!!
